As a vendor in this space, I keep a close eye on everything that is written about social media measurement. This book is by far the most thorough review of what to measure, how to measure it and what to do right now to overcome roadblocks and get started. Best of all, Nichole Kelly truly delivers on the subtitle: This book is, as promised, a “Step By Step Guide” and it is laid out beautifully in an easy-to-understand format that does not require the reader to have a degree in Analytics (or a “PhD in cool”, as the author so eloquently puts it). This really is a must-read; it is the most valuable contribution to the literature on this topic that I’ve seen.

Good book but the key points get lost among hundred other points

This is a decent book on social media measurement. The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that it doesn’t distill ideas well. There are quite many ideas, tips and tricks. The challenge I found after reading chapters is that I was not able to retain much. If a book follows Pareto principle and captures the crux in a few points, then I find that the take away is better understood and remembered. However, if there are 100 points and not much effort has been put to prioritize them then I start to feel lost.

Nichole Kelly’s approach to aligning metrics with strategy and tactics is second to none. A lot of people talk about how important Social Media ROI is, but there aren’t a lot of people that KNOW how to do it. Nichole’s done it both strategically and technically. Even though some of the other reviews say that it is mostly targeted at social media managers, I would actually venture to say that everyone, from business owners to marketing people, should read this book. There’s no BS. You get what you need, which is a demonstrated process of collecting and reporting on what executives care about. I gave this book 5 stars easily.

Practical Social Media Measurement Book

I thought this book was full of practical advice about measurement. I enjoyed it and learned a few things. I enjoyed it far more than some other books on this topic which tend toward philosophy over methods. This book didn’t do that, it focused on approaches and taught how to do the measurement.
