Your 100% Actionable, Proven Framework for Delivering Rock-Solid Social Media Business Metrics—Painlessly

Think social marketing is worth it? Prove it. If your boss hasn’t demanded that yet, he will. Then what? Hand him some jive about “return on conversation”? Think that’ll fly? You’ll be gone so fast you won’t know what hit you. You know damn well what your boss cares about: Sales Volume. Costs. Revenue. This book will help you measure all that: credibly, accurately, and in drill-down detail.

Bet you can’t wait to see his face when you walk in with metrics that stand up to his most brutal questions. We’re not just talking about getting “buy-in” or begging for your proverbial “seat at the table.” We are talking about numbers that make careers. This book will prove your indispensability to even the most clueless executive in your company.

Here’s the best part: It’s not hard. You won’t need to become a math nerd. The tools are cheap (or free), and you’re probably sitting on most of the data. This book will give you everything else, including simple step-by-step techniques for creating measurable strategies and getting the data to prove they deliver. You’ll also get super helpful hands-on exercise worksheets where you can jot down your answers and notes. Nichole Kelly has been refining this stuff for 14 years. She’s helped hundreds of marketers prove their value to bosses and boardrooms. Now it’s your turn.

If you’re a marketer or agency pro, this is a game you have to play. Win it.

Reliable answers to questions like:
How much revenue did our activities on social media platforms generate this month? Are social media prospects more likely to convert to customers? Which status update delivered the highest conversion rate? How long do we retain new social media customers? Do they spend more or less than customers from other channels? Do they make repeat purchases more often than other customers? And much more…

A Must-Read for Marketers and Analysts

As a vendor in this space, I keep a close eye on everything that is written about social media measurement. This book is by far the most thorough review of what to measure, how to measure it and what to do right now to overcome roadblocks and get started. Best of all, Nichole Kelly truly delivers on the subtitle: This book is, as promised, a “Step By Step Guide” and it is laid out beautifully in an easy-to-understand format that does not require the reader to have a degree in Analytics (or a “PhD in cool”, as the author so eloquently puts it). This really is a must-read; it is the most valuable contribution to the literature on this topic that I’ve seen.

While the writing is dry and it has felt like I’ve had to plow through it, it has been most helpful. The information is accurate and absolutely up-to-date here in December 2012.

Excellent book with practical application

Kelly weaves a tapestry of social media analysis any executive would find valuable. She gives step by step practical information to be able to show the value of online advertising. She teaches how and where to find the numbers that will wow the boardroom in every presentation. The hands on exercises are invaluable and will open up opportunities for you to improve strategy, work flow and the bottom line. A must read for any social media manager.

Good book but the key points get lost among hundred other points

This is a decent book on social media measurement. The reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that it doesn’t distill ideas well. There are quite many ideas, tips and tricks. The challenge I found after reading chapters is that I was not able to retain much. If a book follows Pareto principle and captures the crux in a few points, then I find that the take away is better understood and remembered. However, if there are 100 points and not much effort has been put to prioritize them then I start to feel lost.

Best Book on Social Media ROI to Date

Nichole Kelly’s approach to aligning metrics with strategy and tactics is second to none. A lot of people talk about how important Social Media ROI is, but there aren’t a lot of people that KNOW how to do it. Nichole’s done it both strategically and technically. Even though some of the other reviews say that it is mostly targeted at social media managers, I would actually venture to say that everyone, from business owners to marketing people, should read this book. There’s no BS. You get what you need, which is a demonstrated process of collecting and reporting on what executives care about. I gave this book 5 stars easily.

Practical Social Media Measurement Book

 on December 2, 2014
By Kami Huyse
I thought this book was full of practical advice about measurement. I enjoyed it and learned a few things. I enjoyed it far more than some other books on this topic which tend toward philosophy over methods. This book didn’t do that, it focused on approaches and taught how to do the measurement.
